Alan Crombie, a Club member, suggested the visit, and, when we had sufficient interest, arranged the hire of a mini-bus. The party met at Clevedon, and we went directly to Didcot, arriving at about 10:15. There were insufficient numbers in the party for a group discount, so each member paid the £9.00 admission fee separately.
The date was arranged to coincide with the “Little and Large” weekend, a joint event with the Pendon Museum. As well as steam trains running, the broad-gauge locomotive “Fire Fly” was operating. Other items included Signalling and Traveling Post Office operation. Taxis were used to ferry people to Pendon, although we used the mini-bus.
1340: 0-4-0ST arrives at ‘main line’ platform to take us to the end of the site (Oxford Road station).

ABOUT US! - Outside Visits
Every year the Club try to arrange trips, both local evening or a full day
This page provides details of our recent trips, with photos and information. Last year, some members joined a visit to the Clifton Rocks Railway. Sub-pages provide more detailed information. Also included are a few ideas for future trips.
The Club has been on several visits in the past, but more recently, they have proven difficult to arrange. The last full day trip was to visit Didcot Railway Centre and Pendon Model Railway Museum - pictures and details below.
Last year, some members joined with the Weston Railway Society, to visit the Severn Valley Railway and Bliss Hill; unknown then that the railway would soon be destroyed by summer storms. Later in the year an evening trip was made to the Clifton Rocks Railway - pictures and details below.
The party stayed at Didcot until about 1pm., when they left for Pendon Museum. We returned again about 3.30pm. and stayed until the site closed at 5pm. It was agreed by all to have been a very worthwhile visit, and another visit must surely be arranged.

From Left to Right::
General view from suspension bridge - lower entrance can be seen in cliff face next to road.
Making our way down towards steps that will run the full length of the track, down to the roadside at the bottom.
Views of upper portion of track, with model of a tram-car. There were originally four tracks, but the outer two have been partially built over.
The original turn-styles are still in place at the top station, where we entered the complex.
