Conceived in 1865 the original shareholders hoped a line from Monmouth to Ross would link onto the proposed Ross and Tewkesbury railway making a direct link between South Wales and Staffordshire via the Pontypool – Monmouth railway. However the Ross and Tewksbury Railway failed to receive parliamentary assent so Ross to Monmouth remained a very s secondary line.
Had the original plan reached fruition things might have been different!. It is imagined there might have been an exchange yard at Tewkesbury with a procession of trip freight workings to and from South Wales, together with the usual mixture of local and regional traffic as normal on a secondary route. The layout portrays this possibility during the 1950’s and 60’s with a little modeller’s license.
