LAYOUTS
DER GARTETALBAHN
East German Narrow Gauge (750mm)
The model shows the line running through buildings, through the town square, as well as through the countryside.  The station building and goods shed are based on those that were at GROTIGEN.  There are sidings to serve the goods shed, and the local brewery, which is situated in the main street.
A small locomotive shed is also provided.

The locomotives are a mixture of Fleischmann 'Magic-Train', Marklin Minex, and scratch built.  Rolling stock also comes from the same sources.  This includes two transporter wagons for carrying standard gauge wagons, which dwarf the tiny narrow gauge loco's.  There is a Diesel railcar and a small Diesel loco.  The locomotives and rolling stock have all been fitted with "K-D" couplers.
All the rolling stock is weathered to an extent in line with its duties.  The layout is populated by people from, Omen, Slater's, Preisler and other sources.  Road vehicles have also come from a variety of sources, and like the rolling stock are weathered.
The track is Peco 0-16.5(0e) laid on a rubberised cork underlay and ballasted with Woodland Scenics ballast, augmented with Noch grass to give the typical run down narrow gauge look.  Either Peco or Seep motors power the points, with the switches on the motors being used to power the frogs.  Point control is by the 'Stud & Probe'.  A Gaugemaster handheld unit controls the trains.
