[2008] SOMERDALE
Research shows that the "SOMERDALE" wording was laid out in 1925, to coincide with the opening of the new Fry & Son's Chocolate factory. It remained visible until the late 1970's.
The station at Keynsham became "Keynsham and Somerdale" on the 1st February 1925, but was reverted back to just "Keynsham" on 6th May 1974.
The station received many excursions to allow people to visit the factory, and, no doubt, eat lots of chocolate, so the stations platforms were lengthened to accommodate.
The Company had a connection with the main line to a private siding, which was first used on 17th January 1925, but was taken out of use on 26-27th July 1980.
The factory will close in 2010 with the loss of 500 jobs.
