MOBILE TRAIN HEATING UNIT: (winning entry 2005)
Western Region Class 24 Carriage Heating Unit (withdrawn), No. ADB968009.
Converted from a redundant, and non-working, Hornby Class 25. This locomotive was different, not only in being a non-operational departmental locomotive, but also in having a Class 24/1 type cab end at one end and a Class 25 style one at the other. The conversion involved:
The removal of the molded grills and replacement with etched ones.
The modification of the front ends to give the correct Class 24/25 pattern.
Modification to the roof panels.
General detailing of the locomotive to improve its appearance, for example the installation of wire handrails.
